A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Raleigh NC for Chatham, Wake, Johnston, Moore, Lee, Harnett, Hoke, Cumberland, and Sampson counties, effective October 11 at 11:41 AM EDT until 12:45 PM EDT. Residents outdoors are advised to consider seeking shelter inside a building.

At 11:38 AM EDT, Doppler radar detected a cluster of strong thunderstorms moving northeast at 40 mph, along a line extending from near Sanford to near Antioch. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph.

The NWS warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Areas impacted include Fayetteville, Sanford, Raeford, Lillington, Fort Bragg, Fuquay-Varina, Dunn, Angier, Benson, and Godwin. This also affects Interstate 95 between Mile Markers 81 and 41, Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 311 and 332, and US 1 between Mile Markers 69 and 73.

A Tornado Warning is currently in effect for Cumberland and Hoke counties until 12:15 PM, as Doppler radar has indicated rotation with this storm. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for central North Carolina until 5:00 PM EDT.
