Strong Thunderstorm Approaches Eunice: Seek Shelter Indoors
A strong thunderstorm is currently impacting Central and Southern Lea County, as well as Andrews, bringing potential wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and pea-sized hail. Residents in affected areas, especially Eunice, Eunice Airport, and Oil Center, should seek shelter indoors immediately.
The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa TX issued this Special Weather Statement at 7:08 PM CDT today, September 19th. Doppler radar indicates the storm is centered over Eunice, moving northeast at 5 mph. This statement is effective until 7:45 PM CDT tonight.
The primary hazards are gusty winds, which could dislodge tree limbs and unsecured outdoor objects, and pea-sized hail, potentially causing minor damage to vegetation. The NWS advises anyone outdoors to consider seeking shelter inside a building for the duration of the storm.
