Portland Police Nab Vandal in Eastside Home Invasion Spree
Portland Police arrested 40-year-old Christopher Kartzmark Sunday after he went on a destructive rampage in Southeast Portland's East County, armed with a homemade metal spear and pole. Witnesses reported the suspect crawling in driveways and smashing multiple home windows on Southeast Equestrian Drive before forcing entry into a residence, where the homeowner confronted and expelled him. Officers took him into custody shortly after, booking him on burglary, theft, and criminal mischief charges at Multnomah County Detention Center.
Kartzmark appeared in court Monday, where the judge described his actions as sowing 'terror throughout a neighborhood' and set bail at $50,000. His next hearing is scheduled for next week in Southeast Portland. This arrest comes amid a string of Eastside burglaries, including a February 2026 case where 30-year-old Joshua R. Sandall was charged with three counts of second-degree burglary and multiple mischief offenses for targeting a Montavilla school on Southeast 92nd Avenue.
East Portland neighborhoods like Montavilla and those near Southeast Equestrian Drive have seen heightened burglary activity, with police urging tips via [email protected] for case 26-37513. Earlier incidents, such as a June 2025 attempted burglary on Southeast 90th Avenue involving three masked teens caught after a chase, underscore persistent residential crime pressures in the area. Authorities emphasize community vigilance as they combat these patterns.
