State and local health departments and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are collaborating with the CDC on the investigation. The CDC suspects the outbreak is linked to contaminated preservative-free methylprednisolone acetate (MPA) steroid injections. These injections were manufactured by the New England Compounding Center (NECC).
