Bruins Edge Sabres 1-0 in Playoff Opener

The Boston Bruins defeated the Buffalo Sabres 1-0 in the first game of their Eastern Conference playoff series. Morgan Geekie scored the lone goal for Boston at 10:52 of the first period. David Pastrnak had a shot blocked, leading to the scoring opportunity.

Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman stopped all 15 shots he faced in the first period, maintaining the shutout through the end of the period. He recorded multiple key saves, including a glove save on Rasmus Dahlin during a Sabres power play.

Buffalo had a power play opportunity with 5:15 remaining in the first period after Nikita Zadorov received a cross-checking penalty. The Bruins successfully killed the penalty. The Sabres also had a goal disallowed after officials determined the puck crossed the line following a shove with Swayman and the net. Buffalo’s Jason Zucker had a scoring chance stopped by Swayman's left pad. Mattias Samuelsson blocked a shot from the slot for the Sabres early in the game.

Boston gained a power play less than two minutes after their goal when Rasmus Dahlin committed a hooking penalty. The Sabres killed the penalty and started the second period with 50 seconds remaining on another penalty kill, with Jason Zucker in the box.
