Strong Storm with 50 MPH Winds Nearing Dade City, Sumter, Hernando, Pasco

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Sumter, Inland Hernando, and Inland Pasco counties, warning of a strong thunderstorm with wind gusts up to 50 mph until 5:15 PM EDT today, October 9, 2026.

Residents in Sumter, Inland Hernando, and Inland Pasco counties should prepare for a strong thunderstorm. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective immediately until 5:15 PM EDT today, October 9, 2026.

At 4:36 PM EDT, NWS Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm near St. Leo, approximately 9 miles west of Dade City. This storm is moving north at 30 mph.

The primary hazard associated with this storm is wind gusts up to 50 mph. These gusty winds could potentially knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured outdoor objects. If you are outdoors, the NWS advises seeking shelter inside a building.

Locations that may be impacted include Spring Hill, Zephyrhills, Brooksville, Dade City, St. Leo, Hill n Dale, South Brooksville, North Brooksville, Hernando County Airport, Wesley Chapel South, North Weeki Wachee, Ridge Manor, San Antonio, Saint Leo, Royal Highlands, High Point, Lake Lindsey, Masaryktown, Brookridge, and Darby.
