A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Henry County, including Abbeville and Headland, effective October 8 at 5:03 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL. This watch remains in effect until 1:15 PM UTC on October 8.

Residents should immediately begin preparations for hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and the potential for several tornadoes. Peak wind gusts of 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, are expected, but there is a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding may lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and some roads may become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The NWS indicates a favorable situation for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some of which could be intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
