Henry County is under a Tropical Storm Warning with immediate action required due to hazardous winds, major flooding potential, and possible tornadoes. Move to safe shelter now.

Staff Writer

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Henry County, affecting Abbeville and Headland, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL issued the warning today, October 10, at 2:07 AM EDT, expiring at 10:15 AM UTC.

Residents should move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive, with peak gusts up to 40 mph. Limited damage to property and power outages are possible. All remaining efforts to protect property must be completed as soon as possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow their banks, and floodwaters could impact structures and roadways.

There is also a potential for a few tornadoes. If your shelter is vulnerable, relocate to a safer location. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. For local weather conditions and forecasts, visit the NWS Tallahassee website, and for emergency information, refer to the Alabama Emergency Management Agency.
