Mineola residents looking to add some greenery to their homes will have the opportunity to do so next month as the Clark Botanic Garden prepares to host its annual Spring Plant Sale. The event is scheduled for Friday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the garden, located at 193 I. U. Willets Road in Albertson.
The sale will offer a wide variety of plants, including annuals, perennials, herbs, shrubs, native plants, vegetables, and hanging baskets. Attendees will also have access to master gardeners who will be on hand to provide expert advice on plant care and selection.
Proceeds from the plant sale will benefit the Fanny Dwight Clark Memorial Garden, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, enhancing, and preserving the Clark Botanic Garden. Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena highlighted the importance of the sale, stating, "The proceeds from the sale go right back into Clark Garden, so please join us in safeguarding this hidden gem for future generations to enjoy."
In addition to the plant sale, the Town will host a free Native Tree Seedling Giveaway for North Hempstead residents on the first day of the sale, Friday, May 8. Available species include Downy Serviceberry, American plum, and Eastern redbud. Seedlings will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited in quantity.
The event will also feature a Twice Loved Jewelry & Accessories Boutique, an art sale, and a garden gift shop. The Clark Botanic Garden, founded in 1969, serves as a 12-acre living museum and educational facility. Its collections encompass a diverse range of plant life, including native spring wildflowers, conifers, roses, perennials, and more.
The plant sale will proceed rain or shine, and admission is free. Accepted payment methods include cash, credit cards, and checks. For more information, residents can call 311 or (516) 869-6311.
