A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Franklin County by NWS Peachtree City, effective immediately, bringing hazardous winds up to 45 mph and a Flood Watch with 2-4 inches of rain; residents should finalize preparations and heed flood warnings.
FRANKLIN COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Franklin County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 11:19 PM EDT. This warning is in effect until October 10 at 7:30 AM UTC.
Residents should prepare for hazardous winds between 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts potentially reaching 45 mph. Efforts to protect property should be complete. Act now to finalize any last-minute preparations before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unsecured lightweight objects. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could snap or uproot. Expect scattered power and communications outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is anticipated. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding, as evacuations and rescues are possible. Consider protective actions if you are in a flood-vulnerable area. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may quickly swell, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous due to road and bridge closures and rapid inundation in low-lying areas.
The NWS indicates the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected. For more information on family emergency plans, visit ready.gov/hurricanes. Local weather conditions and forecasts are available at weather.gov/atlanta.
