HENRY COUNTY, AL – October 7, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL, has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for parts of Henry County, effective at 11:00 PM EDT tonight. Residents in Abbeville and Headland should immediately begin preparations for hazardous wind and moderate flooding rain. The watch is set to expire on October 8, 2026, at 7:00 AM UTC (3:00 AM EDT).
Wind speeds are forecast between 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Property protection efforts should be underway now. Expected impacts include damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could be snapped or uprooted. Scattered power and communication outages are possible, and some roads may become impassable due to debris.
Heavy rainfall of 3-6 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected, posing a significant risk of moderate flooding. Residents in flood-prone areas should consider protective actions. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could quickly swell, and small streams and ditches may overflow. Floodwaters could enter some structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous due to flooded roads and underpasses. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
