A Special Weather Statement has been issued for parts of Jones and Northern Craven counties until 4:15 PM EDT today, October 3rd. The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City NC reports that Doppler radar is tracking a strong shower capable of producing a landspout.
At 3:50 PM EDT, this shower was located near Wyse Fork, approximately 10 miles southeast of Kinston, and is moving southeast at 10 mph. The primary hazards are landspouts and wind gusts up to 40 mph.
Impacts could include minor damage to outdoor objects. Gusty winds may knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured items. Areas expected to be impacted include Jasper, Wyse Fork, Dover, Cove City, and Trenton.
If you are outdoors in the affected areas, consider seeking shelter inside a building immediately.
