Tropical Storm Warning for Forrest County: Localized Flooding Risk
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Forrest County until October 10 at 6:45 AM UTC, bringing a risk of localized flooding and gusty winds, according to the NWS.
FORREST COUNTY, MS – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Forrest County by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:31 PM CDT. While the immediate threat of tropical storm force winds has decreased, residents should prepare for potential localized flooding.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. The sustained wind is expected to remain below tropical storm force, but conditions may still be gusty. Community officials are currently assessing any realized wind impacts.
There is no additional significant rainfall forecast, however, localized flooding remains a potential threat. Residents in areas vulnerable to flooding should consider protective actions. Rivers and tributaries may rise quickly with stronger currents, and small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches could overflow. Flood waters may enter structures in vulnerable spots, and rapid ponding of water is possible in underpasses and low-lying areas. Heed any flood watches and warnings that may be issued.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Little to no preparations are needed for tornadoes, but residents should stay informed of the latest forecast changes.
This Tropical Storm Warning is effective until October 10 at 6:45 AM UTC. For ongoing updates and emergency instructions, monitor local officials and NWS advisories.
