Hardee County SAFE Program Helps First Responders
Hardee County launched a program that gives first responders immediate access to information about residents with special needs or disabilities during emergencies.
The SAFE program lets individuals register critical details about their condition, potential reactions, and communication preferences. Participants receive three decals to place on vehicles and homes, signaling to first responders that a person with special needs is present.
The Hardee County Sheriff's Office, Wauchula Police Department, Bowling Green Police Department, and Hardee County Fire Rescue all access the registered information.
Sheriff Crawford said the program aims to give caregivers confidence that first responders will know how to communicate with their loved ones during emergencies.
Hardee County is among the first counties to implement the program. State officials plan a statewide launch in the coming months.
