CDC Estimates Nearly 26 Million Americans Have Diabetes

Approximately 26 million people in the United States have diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC also estimates that 79 million American adults have prediabetes.

Prediabetes is a condition characterized by higher-than-normal blood sugar levels that are not yet high enough to warrant a diabetes diagnosis. The CDC reports that prediabetes increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, as well as heart disease and stroke.
