Missile and Drone Strikes Kill 22 in Kyiv Region

July 26, 2026

KYIV, UKRAINE – Missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, including the Kyiv region, killed at least 22 people on a single day. The attacks also caused injuries and damage to property in various locations.

Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces launched 23 cruise missiles and 32 Shahed drones. Ukraine's air defense systems intercepted 21 of the cruise missiles and 23 of the drones, according to the military. The attacks hit 10 Ukrainian regions.

In the Kyiv region, falling debris ignited a fire at a grocery store, according to Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv city military administration. First responders extinguished the blaze. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that falling debris also damaged power lines and a road in the city. Ukraine's air force stated that one person died in the capital.

Elsewhere, a missile struck an apartment building in Uman, a city in central Ukraine, killing 17 people including three children. Rescuers searched through the rubble for survivors. Another missile strike in Dnipro killed a woman and a 2-year-old child.

The attacks underscore existing gaps in Ukraine's air defense capabilities. Ukrainian authorities have communicated a need for additional U.S.-made Patriot interceptor missiles, among other air defense assets.
