Strong Thunderstorm Threatens Hamilton and Stanton Counties: Seek Shelter Now

Residents in Hamilton and Stanton Counties are advised to seek shelter indoors immediately due to a strong thunderstorm moving through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Dodge City, Kansas, issued a Special Weather Statement at 7:10 PM CDT tonight, September 19, 2026, warning of wind gusts between 50 to 55 mph.

As of 7:09 PM CDT (6:09 PM MDT), Doppler radar detected the strong thunderstorm near The Saunders Elevator, tracking eastward at 30 mph. This hazard, indicated by radar, is expected to impact locations including Johnson City.

The NWS warns that these gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured outdoor objects. The Special Weather Statement is effective until 8:00 PM CDT tonight.
