Jackson Prep's Dynasty Ends: Academy Stops 7-Year Championship Run

Jackson Academy's senior pitcher-outfielder Foster Meacham delivered the decisive blow with two home runs and five RBIs in a furious seventh-inning uprising that propelled No. 5 seed JA to a 15-7 victory over previously dominant Jackson Prep in the first round of the 6A state playoffs.

The comeback, staged before an estimated 600 spectators at Prep's Flowood facility, denied the Patriots what would have been their record 24th state title. Jackson Prep had won seven consecutive MAIS Class 6A baseball championships—a streak that underscored the program's sustained excellence across Mississippi's independent school ranks.

"It is only JA's second 20-win season since 2018," according to playoff records, making Saturday's third-game triumph in the series particularly significant. Jackson Academy improved to 20-14 with the victory, capturing its first playoff win against Prep since the Raiders' last state championship run in 2011.

The loss represents a rare setback for the Jackson Prep athletic program, which has established itself as a powerhouse across multiple sports in the MAIS system. The Patriots will now shift focus to their remaining spring sports competitions as the independent school playoff cycle continues through May.
