Joan Tucker Hines, 84, of Nathalie, passed away last month

Nathalie resident Joan Tucker Hines, 84, a former Halifax County Department of Social Services employee, passed away peacefully at her home last month.

Nathalie resident Joan Tucker Hines, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 14, 2026. She was the wife of the late Marvin Hudnal Hines.

Born in Charlotte County on February 26, 1942, Mrs. Hines was the daughter of the late Billy Buck Tucker and the late Lillian Arrowood Tucker. She was a dedicated member of Childrey Baptist Church and retired from the Halifax County Department of Social Services, where she served the community for many years.

Mrs. Hines is survived by her granddaughter, Amanda Hines Holden, and her husband Brandon of Nathalie. She also leaves behind her great-granddaughter, Briar Holden, and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members. She was preceded in death by her son, Stephan “Mickey” Hines, and her sisters Geraldine Moore, Lucille Johnson, and Carolyn Wills.

A funeral service was conducted by Rev. Jerry Stanfield at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Childrey Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and at Mrs. Hines’ home at other times.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Halifax County Cancer Association, located at 29 S Main St, Halifax, VA 24558. Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Brookneal assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hendersonfuneral.net.
