Students Learn Dementia Care Through Music in Lititz
More than 100 elementary and high school students from the Mennonite Children's Choir of Lancaster visited Landis Homes in Lititz to spend time with residents and learn about dementia care.
Before the visits, students received training on brain changes, physical approach techniques, and how to engage with people living with dementia. During two sessions, they met with residents, listened to their stories, and shared conversations.
Students reported meaningful connections. One said the experience "made her entire day." Another felt heard by a resident in a way she rarely experienced. Middle school students asked when they could return.
The program, called "Building Connection Through Music: Dementia Care Training Experience," is part of Lumina by Landis.
