Annapolis Track Meet Shatters Attendance Record with Record-Breaking Feats
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Day.News) — More than 5,000 spectators flooded Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on May 1-2 for the MPSSAA Track and Field State Championships, obliterating previous attendance records for the event, according to WTOP reporting. The two-day meet drew crowds from across Maryland's 24 divisions, showcasing the state's deepest track talent pool yet amid balmy spring weather.
Annapolis High School stars stole the spotlight in field events. John Giovingo launched the shot put 42 feet, 0.75 inches in 2007 at the MPSSAA State Meet Day 2, a mark still listed among top historical records on Athletic.net, while James Follester hit 41 feet, 7.5 inches. Sprint records tumbled too, with athletes posting sub-10.5-second 100-meter dashes, fueling the electric atmosphere as hometown favorites battled rivals from Montgomery County and Baltimore.
