
Gulfport Council OKs 49th St. Improvements, Discusses Zoning
Gulfport City Council approved an interlocal agreement with St. Petersburg for 49th Street Corridor intersection improvements and discussed local zoning during their Jan. 6 meeting.

The Gulfport City Council met Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, at City Hall to discuss improvements along the 49th Street Corridor and other local matters. The council authorized the City Manager to enter an interlocal agreement with St. Petersburg for intersection upgrades on 49th Street, a key route connecting neighborhoods and serving daily traffic for both cities.
During the meeting, Recreation Supervisor Marivel Gutierrez announced the winners of the 2025 Holiday Decoration Contest. Ms. Caron Schwartz and Mr. Bradley Bruner presented the annual update from the Senior Citizens' Advisory Committee. Advanced Engineering & Design, Inc. representatives Justin Keller and Cody Stewart shared findings from a city vulnerability study.
The council also engaged in a discussion regarding zoning. Routine matters included public comment, city reports, and approval of minutes from the Dec. 2 and Dec. 16, 2025, meetings.
