Strong Thunderstorms Impacting Northern Harrison, Jackson Counties

Residents in Northern Harrison and Northern Jackson counties, including the communities of Biloxi and Latimer, should monitor weather conditions closely. The National Weather Service (NWS) in New Orleans has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of strong thunderstorms.

As of 9:44 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated an area of strong thunderstorms 10 miles north of Latimer, or 14 miles north of St. Martin. These storms are moving southwest at 20 mph. The primary hazard associated with these storms is wind gusts up to 40 mph, which could lead to downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around.

This Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and expires at 10:30 PM CDT tonight, September 20, 2026. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Remember, lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. For your safety, seek shelter inside a building or vehicle immediately.
