BUTLER COUNTY, AL – October 9, 2026 – Residents in Butler County, particularly Greenville, are advised to take immediate action as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL, effective at 7:27 AM CDT today, October 9, 2026. This warning is for a severe event with immediate urgency.

Strong tropical storm force winds are anticipated, with peak gusts reaching 45-60 mph, and some areas potentially experiencing gusts up to 85 mph. These dangerous winds are expected from early this evening until Saturday morning. Remaining efforts to protect life and property, including securing loose objects, should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow, and floodwaters could enter numerous structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with many road closures expected.

There is also a potential for a few isolated tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
