BUTLER COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Butler County, including Greenville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective immediately. Residents must complete all preparations as soon as possible.

Strong Tropical Storm force winds are expected early this evening until early Saturday morning, with peak winds forecast at 45-60 mph and gusts up to 85 mph. Significant wind damage is possible, including damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes, as well as downed trees and power outages. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Expect 3-6 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, leading to potential major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may rapidly overflow, and many roads could become impassable.

The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly. For local information, contact Butler County EMA at 334-382-7911. Further storm impact details are available at www.weather.gov/mob.
