BUTLER COUNTY, AL – October 10, 2026 – Residents of Butler County, specifically Greenville, are advised to shelter immediately as a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect, issued by the NWS Mobile AL at 1:02 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.

Last-minute preparations for wind should now be complete. The area is subject to significant wind damage, with peak wind forecasts of 25-35 mph and gusts up to 55 mph. There is potential for winds of 58 to 73 mph. Now is the time to shelter from dangerous wind. Potential impacts from the main wind event are unfolding.

Major flooding from heavy rain is also expected. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding, and evacuations and rescues are likely. If you are in an area vulnerable to flooding, strongly consider protective actions and heed any flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action will likely result in serious injury or loss of life.

Extensive impacts from flooding include potential evacuations and rescues, rapid overflowing of rivers and tributaries, and dangerous conditions on small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches. Flood waters may enter many structures, making some uninhabitable. Streets and parking lots may become rivers, with underpasses submerged, leading to dangerous driving conditions and numerous road closures.

Tornadoes are not expected, though showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may occur. Little to no preparations are needed for tornadoes at this time, but residents should remain informed of any changes.
