Residents in Conecuh, Butler, Escambia, and Covington counties should seek shelter indoors immediately due to a cluster of strong thunderstorms. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, issued a Special Weather Statement at 3:27 PM CDT, effective until 4:30 PM CDT today, September 20, 2026.
Doppler radar indicates these strong thunderstorms are located 7 miles southwest of McKenzie, or 9 miles east of Evergreen, moving southwest at 20 mph. The primary hazard is wind gusts up to 40 mph, which could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
Impacted locations include Evergreen, McKenzie, Castleberry, Red Level, and the area of I65 and US 84.
In addition to strong winds, torrential rainfall is occurring, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are advised not to drive through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is also present; lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. If outdoors, seek safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
