Acting Attorney General Confirmation Hearing Scheduled, U.S. Reinstitutes Iran Blockade, ICE Halts Traffic Stops

Why it matters locally: The suspension of traffic stops by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could alter interactions between the agency and residents across Arizona, a state with significant border security concerns and a substantial immigrant population. The confirmation of an acting Attorney General could also impact federal policy decisions that affect Arizona's legal landscape and federal resource allocation.

Todd Blanche, currently serving as acting Attorney General, will appear before a committee for his confirmation hearing. This hearing marks a step in the process for his potential permanent appointment to the position. Separately, the United States has restarted its blockade against Iran. This action occurs amid an ongoing standoff concerning navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical international waterway. In a third development, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has suspended its practice of conducting traffic stops. This policy change follows multiple shooting incidents involving the agency.
