Mariners operating in waters from Cape Charles Light to the Virginia-North Carolina Border, 20 to 60 nautical miles offshore, are advised to alter plans and seek safe harbor due to a Gale Warning. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield, VA, issued the warning at 9:41 PM EDT on September 24, effective until 1:00 AM EDT on Saturday, September 26.

Northeast winds of 30 to 35 knots, with gusts up to 45 knots, are expected. Seas are forecast to reach 14 to 19 feet. These conditions pose a significant hazard, capable of capsizing or damaging vessels and reducing visibility.

The NWS instructs all mariners to remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure vessels for hazardous conditions. Do not disregard this warning.
