A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Greene County, including Leakesville and McLain, urging residents to prepare for hazardous winds and moderate flooding rain immediately.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Greene County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 7:27 AM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. Residents in Leakesville and McLain should complete preparations for hazardous wind and moderate flooding rain as soon as possible.

Peak wind gusts of 15-25 mph, potentially reaching 45 mph, are expected. Damage to carports, sheds, unanchored mobile homes, and large tree limbs is possible. Scattered power and communication outages may occur, and some roads could become impassable due to debris. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. The NWS advises that the wind threat remains steady.

Approximately 1 inch of rain is forecast, with a potential for moderate flooding. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams could overflow. Flooding could impact some structures, especially in low-lying areas, and lead to hazardous driving conditions. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Tornadoes are not expected at this time.

This Tropical Storm Warning is effective until October 9 at 3:30 PM UTC. For local information, contact Greene County EMA at 601-394-5627. For storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
