A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Greene County, including Leakesville and McLain, effective immediately, as of 3:55 PM CDT on October 9. The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL warns residents to prepare for hazardous wind and moderate flooding rain.
Wind speeds are forecast to reach 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should complete efforts to protect property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as broken tree limbs, a few snapped trees, and scattered power and communication outages. Driving conditions may become hazardous due to debris and on elevated roadways.
Moderate rainfall flooding is also expected, potentially leading to several evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams could overflow. Floodwaters could enter some structures and make driving hazardous in low-lying areas. Residents in vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed any flood watches and warnings.
