A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Greene County, including Leakesville and McLain, effective immediately as of 10:06 AM CDT today, October 8th, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL. This warning is in effect until 6:15 PM UTC today.

Residents should prepare for dangerous wind conditions, with potential for strong tropical storm force winds (58 to 73 mph) and gusts up to 35 mph. Significant damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes is possible, along with downed trees and power outages. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.

Moderate flooding rain is also expected, with 2-4 inches of rainfall and locally higher amounts, potentially causing evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, leading to hazardous driving conditions and road closures. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. For local information, contact the Greene County EMA at 601-394-5627. Further storm impact information is available at www.weather.gov/mob.
