Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Greene County: Prepare Now
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Greene County, urging residents in Leakesville and McLain to complete preparations immediately for dangerous winds, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes from October 7-8.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Greene County, effective from October 7 at 9:53 PM CDT until October 8 at 6:00 AM CDT. Residents in Leakesville and McLain should complete preparations immediately as dangerous conditions are expected.
The National Weather Service Mobile AL warns of potential wind speeds from 58 to 73 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Significant damage to roofing, mobile homes, and trees is possible, leading to impassable roads and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway. Act now to complete preparations before winds become hazardous.
Moderate flooding rain is also anticipated, with 2-4 inches of rainfall expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous with potential road closures.
The threat of a few tornadoes has increased. Emergency plans should include the potential for tornadoes. If your shelter is vulnerable, relocate to a safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly. Limited impacts are expected from tornadoes, but they can cause damage and disrupt emergency plans.
