GREENE COUNTY, MS – October 7, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Greene County, effective immediately at 4:03 PM CDT. This means tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours.

Residents in Leakesville and McLain should prepare for significant wind and flooding threats. Peak wind gusts could reach 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 58 to 73 mph. This level of wind can cause damage to roofing, mobile homes, and significant tree damage, potentially rendering some roads impassable.

Moderate flooding rain is also expected, with 2-4 inches of rainfall and locally higher amounts. This could lead to moderate flooding, overflowing waterways, and hazardous driving conditions. Flood waters may enter structures in vulnerable areas.

ACT NOW: Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway. Heed any flood watches and warnings. For local information, contact Greene County EMA at 601-394-5627. For more storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
