Red Flag Warning: Greeley & Wichita Counties Through Monday
The National Weather Service in Goodland issued a Red Flag Warning for Greeley and Wichita counties through 9 p.m. MDT tonight and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. MDT Monday. Logan and Gove counties also face the warning through Monday evening.
Southwest winds will gust to 35 mph while humidity drops to 11 percent. The strongest winds will arrive mid-afternoon both days. Monday's conditions will worsen, prompting forecasters to expand a Fire Weather Watch to Sheridan, Graham and Norton counties.
Any fire that starts will spread rapidly and unpredictably. Outdoor burning is prohibited. Residents must comply with all burn bans and avoid activities that could create sparks, including mowing dry grass, using equipment that generates heat near vegetation, and parking vehicles with hot exhaust on dry grass.
Do not drive on dry grass or brush. Check vehicle brakes and tires before travel. Secure all tow chains. Never throw cigarettes on the ground.
Prepare an evacuation plan with multiple routes out of your area. Keep important documents, medications and emergency supplies accessible. Charge cell phones and have battery-powered radios available.
Call 911 if you see smoke or fire. Do not attempt to fight wildfires. Monitor NOAA Weather Radio or the National Weather Service Goodland forecast page for updates.
