Winter Haven Man Arrested for DUI, Driving 100 MPH

Winter Haven man arrested for DUI, driving 100 mph on revoked license

A Winter Haven man faces felony charges after a Polk County Sheriff's deputy clocked him driving 100 mph in a 60 mph zone on U.S. Highway 27 near Lake Wales on June 11.

Joseph Olivera, 49, was charged with third-degree felonies for DUI (third or subsequent offense) and driving with a revoked license as a habitual offender. Deputies also charged him with misdemeanors for refusing a breath sample and dangerous excessive speeding.

The deputy observed Olivera's 2025 BMW sedan weaving across all three lanes northbound near Peace Creek Park Road, forcing other drivers to brake and swerve to avoid collisions. During the stop, the deputy confirmed Olivera's license has been revoked since 2022 with 13 active suspensions stemming from DUI, breath test refusal, failure to pay citations, failure to appear in court, and failure to pay child support.

The deputy noted signs of impairment and found open alcohol containers in the vehicle. Olivera refused to provide a breath sample and was booked into the Polk County Jail.

Sheriff Grady Judd urged residents to call 911 if they see Olivera driving.
