Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow, Dangerous Travel Expected Through Monday Morning

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until Monday morning for several Montana regions, with heavy snow, dangerous travel, and potential power outages expected.

Residents in the East Glacier Park Region, Northern High Plains, Southern Rocky Mountain Front, Southern High Plains, Upper Blackfoot and MacDonald Pass, and Gates of the Mountains should prepare for severe winter weather. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 6:00 AM MDT on Monday, October 12, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls, MT.

Heavy snow is expected, with additional accumulations up to 3 inches possible. Wind gusts could reach as high as 35 mph. The NWS warns that travel conditions could become very difficult due to the snow. The wet and heavy nature of the snow also poses a risk of bringing down tree branches, potentially leading to isolated power outages.

If travel is necessary, the NWS advises keeping an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle. For the latest road conditions, residents can dial 511.
