Eric Michael Crosby, 47, of Castleton, Passes Away

Eric Michael Crosby, 47, of Castleton, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026, after a sudden illness at Rutland Regional Medical Center (RRMC). Mr. Crosby was born in Rutland on February 28, 1979, to Mona (Dayton) and John Crosby.

Mr. Crosby found joy in reading, spending time with friends, and playing video games with his son, Layne, and stepson, RJ. He cherished his role as a father to both Layne and RJ. He lived in Castleton with his mother, Mona Eddy, and his son, Layne.

He attended Castleton Elementary School and graduated from Fair Haven Union High School. Throughout his career, Mr. Crosby worked at Wallingford Meat Locker, Castrol at GE, and Coastal Gas in Castleton.

Mr. Crosby was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary and Charlie Dayton, and Hope and John Crosby. He also lost his fathers, John Crosby and Joe Eddy, and the love of his life, Holly Kimmel-Merwin.

He is survived by his mother, Mona Eddy, and son Layne Crosby, both of Castleton. His stepson, RJ Merwin, resides in Fair Haven. He is also survived by his siblings: Cheryl Mahoney and her husband George of Middletown Springs, George Hoisington and his wife Jen of Mount Holly, Michael Eddy, and Lisa Duprey and her husband Chris, all of Rutland. Additionally, he leaves behind aunts, uncles, many cousins, and friends.

Calling hours will take place at Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland on Monday, September 21, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A service, performed by Susan Dumas, will follow the calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests considering a donation to Layne's college fund.
