Residents in Central Siskiyou County, Jackson County, and the Siskiyou Mountains and Southern Oregon Cascades should prepare for strong thunderstorms. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Medford, OR, issued a Special Weather Statement today, September 16, 2026, at 5:32 PM PDT, effective until 6:00 PM PDT.

Doppler radar indicates strong thunderstorms are moving north at 25 mph. These storms extend from Howard Prairie Recreation Area to near Pilot Rock. Hazards include winds in excess of 40 mph and nickel-sized hail. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects, with minor damage to outdoor objects possible.

Locations impacted include Emigrant Lake, Hyatt Lake Campground, Howard Prairie Recreation Area, and Buck Prairie Nordic Trails. The NWS advises persons in campgrounds to consider seeking sturdy shelter until these storms pass. Monitor local radio and television stations for additional information and possible warnings.
