Port Sheldon Township Requests EPA Hearing on Injection Well
Port Sheldon Township trustees voted to request a public hearing from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on a proposed deep injection well at the J.H. Campbell Generating Plant, operated by Consumers Energy.
The board approved directing township officials to submit formal correspondence to the EPA. Trustees said the hearing would give residents a chance to question EPA representatives and project officials about the well and permitting process.
The well would be located at the Campbell plant on Lake Michigan near the Ottawa-Allegan county line. The EPA holds final authority over the permit.
Residents can submit comments through the EPA's official public comment process on the agency's website. The township said it will share updates as the permit application moves forward.
