Fairborn Detective Wins Eckert Award for Victim Advocacy
Fairborn Police Detective Zach Zink received the 2026 David P. Eckert Outstanding Law Enforcement Service Award on May 4 for his work supporting crime victims.
Greene County Prosecutor David Hayes presented the award, named for a former Fairborn police officer. Hayes said the award recognizes detectives who prioritize how they treat victims.
"The difference between a good detective and a great detective is the way they treat victims," Hayes said. "Great detectives approach every case the way they would want someone to treat their own family."
Zink joined the Fairborn Police Department in 2015 and moved to the Detective Section in 2025. His recent work contributed to a sexual assault prosecution.
"This is the best job I've ever had," Zink said. "Being able to serve this community and stand up for victims is something I value."
Fairborn Police Chief Ben Roman said Zink embodies the department's values. Brad Eckert, assistant fire chief and son of David P. Eckert, said his family has long prioritized public service across generations.
