A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Grady County, including Cairo, as of 5:22 PM EDT today, October 8, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL. Residents are urged to complete all preparations immediately.

Strong winds are anticipated, with gusts up to 40 mph, capable of causing limited damage to property, breaking tree limbs, and creating scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely, and residents in flood-prone areas should strongly consider protective actions. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

Furthermore, the NWS indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued.

This Tropical Storm Watch is effective until 1:30 AM UTC on October 9. For ongoing updates and local forecasts, visit NWS Tallahassee. Additional emergency information is available from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency at ready.ga.gov.
