State Department Implements New Visa Restriction Policy

WASHINGTON – The U.S. State Department announced a new visa restriction policy on July 16, 2026. The policy targets individuals associated with groups described by the department as using violence for political purposes.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio's press statement outlined the policy's focus on individuals who have supported or incited acts of terrorism, supported violent criminal activity, participated in economic sabotage, financed, recruited, or provided logistical support for violent or criminal actions. It also targets those who have facilitated the coordination of networks for violent action.

The department stated the policy aims to safeguard the American homeland by restricting entry to foreign nationals involved in these activities. Officials cited Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act as the authority for these actions. The implementation supports National Security Presidential Memorandum-7.
