Red Flag Warning Issued for Lewis and Clark, Helena National Forest Areas

A Red Flag Warning has been issued by the NWS Great Falls for Central and Eastern Lewis and Clark National Forest Areas and parts of the Helena National Forest, effective until 9:00 PM MDT tonight, due to critical fire weather conditions.

HELENA, MT – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls has issued a Red Flag Warning for Central and Eastern Lewis and Clark National Forest Areas, including the Helena and Townsend Ranger Districts of the Helena National Forest. The warning is in effect from October 9 at 8:42 PM MDT until October 9 at 9:00 PM MDT.

This severe alert indicates critical fire weather conditions are present. While winds are expected to decrease over the next few hours and relative humidity will rise overnight, widespread precipitation is anticipated to begin by tomorrow afternoon, October 10.

Residents and visitors in the affected areas are advised to exercise extreme caution regarding any potential fire ignition sources. Although the immediate warning period is brief, the underlying conditions necessitate continued vigilance until precipitation arrives. The NWS Great Falls MT issued this alert.
