Georgia Level 1 Drought: Monroe County Water Conservation

Staff Writer
May 15, 2026

Georgia's Environmental Protection Division declared a statewide Level 1 Drought Response on Monday, April 27, affecting Monroe County and prompting local water conservation efforts.

Public water systems serving the county must launch information campaigns explaining drought conditions and urging conservation. They will use newspaper ads, bill inserts, website notices, social media, and library announcements to reach both residential and commercial customers.

The state's outdoor watering schedule remains unchanged. General landscape watering may occur between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. daily. Residents may water food gardens, newly planted vegetation, and seeds at any time for 30 days after installation. Drip irrigation, soaker hoses, and handheld watering with automatic cutoffs are permitted at any time.

For additional water conservation tips, residents can visit the Georgia EPD's Watershed Protection Branch website.
