Georgetown Earns Tree City USA Recognition 2023
Georgetown received Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation for 2023, recognizing the city's commitment to managing and expanding its urban forest.
Communities earn the designation by meeting four standards: maintaining a tree board or department, adopting a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day.
"This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our City staff and community partners in preserving and enhancing our urban forest," City Administrator Paul Gardner said.
Trees improve air quality, water quality, and residents' quality of life, Gardner noted.
Georgetown joins thousands of communities nationwide that have earned the designation through sound urban forestry management. The Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit conservation organization, administers the program. More information is available at www.arborday.org.
