Rip Current Warning for Coastal Horry & Georgetown Until 8 PM Today

A Rip Current Statement is in effect for Coastal Horry and Coastal Georgetown counties until 8:00 PM EDT today, October 10, warning of dangerous rip currents that can sweep swimmers away from shore.

Beachgoers in Coastal Horry and Coastal Georgetown counties are advised of dangerous rip currents today, October 10, until 8:00 PM EDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) Wilmington NC has issued a Rip Current Statement effective immediately.

Rip currents pose a significant risk, capable of pulling even strong swimmers away from the shore into deeper waters. The NWS urges the public to exercise extreme caution if entering the ocean.

To ensure safety, the NWS recommends swimming near a lifeguard. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. Instead, if possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore, and signal for help by calling or waving.
