Beach Hazards & Coastal Flood Advisory Issued for Coastal Georgetown
A Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for Coastal Georgetown County until tonight, warning of strong longshore currents, moderate rip current risk, and minor coastal flooding.
Coastal Georgetown residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution today, October 6, due to a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service Wilmington NC.
The Beach Hazards Statement, effective until 8 PM EDT tonight, warns of strong north to south longshore currents and a moderate risk of rip currents. Swimmers and surfers should use caution and check with lifeguards before entering the ocean, as strong currents can sweep individuals into hazardous areas or make it difficult to return to shore.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect until 7 PM EDT tonight. Up to half a foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. This may impact vulnerable causeways to and from local beaches, and low-lying roads along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks may experience minor coastal flooding. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Residents in affected areas should take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
For the latest information regarding coastal flood impacts and closures, check with local officials.
