Sussex Academy Names Dr. Nikki Miller Chief Academic Officer
Sussex Academy appointed Dr. Nikki Miller as chief academic officer, effective June 1. She succeeds Janet Owens, who retires June 30 after 26 years at the public charter school.
Miller will oversee K-12 curriculum, teaching methods and assessments. She will supervise campus deans, special populations coordinators and teaching staff.
Miller spent the past four years as supervisor of instruction for Seaford School District, where she managed curriculum and professional learning across six schools serving 2,600 students. She previously served as principal of Cape Henlopen High School for five years, where AP participation and passing rates reached historic highs. She also worked as assistant principal at Cape High for three years.
Miller holds a bachelor's degree in secondary social studies education, a master's degree in applied technology, and a doctorate in educational leadership. She mentors master's and doctoral candidates at Wilmington University and leads statewide initiatives on student residencies and paraeducator-to-teacher pipelines.
Head of School Kyle Bentley said Miller brings established relationships across the county and a track record of supporting student achievement. Miller will work with Owens during June to ensure a smooth transition before assuming full responsibilities July 1.
