Boy Overcomes Trauma at Childhelp Village in Beaumont
Beaumont, CA — Henry arrived at the Alice C. Tyler Village of Childhelp in 2021 carrying the weight of severe neglect and abuse. The young boy had spent his earliest years in isolation, sedation, and restraints, leaving him with intense behavioral problems, nightmares, and fear of adults. Multiple foster placements could not manage his needs.
Staff at the Village diagnosed his trauma-related and developmental disorders, then built an intensive care plan around safety, trust, communication, and emotional regulation. Henry responded slowly. He discovered comfort in art, play, and nature. Books became his window to understanding the world.
In 2024, a doctor and social worker began visiting Henry. They saw his potential. Later that year, they adopted him.
Today, Henry volunteers to help other children in crisis. He reads widely, explores new foods and cultures, and spends time outdoors. His transformation illustrates the specialized care the Village provides to children with complex trauma histories.
